Communities across North Lanarkshire continue to benefit from an ambitious regeneration programme focused on delivering modern, energy-efficient homes and creating safer, more sustainable places to live.
As part of the wider Transforming Places programme, North Lanarkshire Council is making continued progress with its long-term tower regeneration strategy, which aims to replace all 48 high-rise tower blocks across the area over the next 25 years.
Major progress has already been achieved during the first phase of the programme, with more than 1,550 properties vacated to allow demolition and redevelopment works to advance at several key sites. Work remains ongoing at Dunbeth Court, while regeneration efforts are also progressing at the former Coursington, Allen and Draffen tower sites in Motherwell.
In Coatbridge, demolition of Jackson Court has now been completed, with foundation works nearing completion in preparation for future redevelopment. Demolition works at Allershaw Tower are also continuing, with the site expected to be fully cleared later this year.
Alongside regeneration activity, the council continues to invest in improving safety within existing tower blocks through sprinkler installations, enhanced fire safety measures and lift replacement programmes. Sprinkler systems have now been fitted in 13 towers, with further installations planned over the next five years.
Housing Convener Michael McPake said the programme is about more than replacing outdated buildings, highlighting its wider role in supporting regeneration, improving communities and ensuring homes across North Lanarkshire are fit for the future.
